Oxford Brookes University is a modern, innovative university in the city of Oxford. Its roots go back to the Oxford School of Art, founded in 1865, and it became a university in 1992. It teaches about 18,000 students, with an international community from more than 150 countries.
Oxford Brookes is ranked 701–800 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027 and is among the world’s top universities in 24 subject areas in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026. It has a strong reputation in business, architecture, engineering and health sciences, and is regarded as one of the UK’s best young universities: it was ranked 6th in the UK for teaching in the THE Young University Rankings 2024. It was rated Silver in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
The university teaches on two campuses: Headington in Oxford, its largest, set over the Gipsy Lane, Headington Hill and Marston Road sites, and Swindon. All teaching at Harcourt Hill moved to Headington for the 2025/26 academic year. Modern libraries, research centres, sports facilities, the students’ union and many clubs give students a rich campus life.
