Pearson PTE

Pearson is a learning company headquartered in London, with a history going back to 1844. It describes itself as “the world’s lifelong learning company” and offers learning experiences, assessments and qualifications in around 200 countries. PTE (Pearson Test of English) is the name of Pearson’s English proficiency tests.

PTE Academic is an academic English test that assesses speaking, writing, reading and listening in a single sitting. It is taken on a computer at a test centre and lasts about two hours. Scoring combines AI with human expertise, on a 10–90 scale. Results usually arrive within two business days; scores are valid for two years and can be sent free of charge to as many institutions as needed.

According to Pearson, more than 4,000 universities and colleges worldwide accept PTE Academic, and 99% of UK universities accept PTE tests. PTE Academic is used for degree-level applications to UK universities. For study below degree level, such as foundation and pathway courses, the Student visa requires a Secure English Language Test (SELT) approved by the UK Home Office; Pearson’s approved test for this is PTE Academic UKVI. PTE Home A1, A2 and B1 are approved speaking and listening tests for UK family, settlement and citizenship applications.

Pearson’s Türkiye page lists PTE test centres in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Denizli, Erzurum and Van; according to the UK government’s list of approved centres, the UKVI and PTE Home tests are held in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Adana. As of September 2026, PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI cost TRY 10,000 in Türkiye and the PTE Home tests TRY 8,500. Tests are booked through a myPTE account, whose Smart Prep section has free preparation: a study plan, short guided practice tests, online courses and test tips.
